Car must be registered in Returning Resident&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant should have returned after termination of foreign employment<\/li>\n<li>The vehicle should have been registered in the name of applicant and used<\/li>\n<li>Registration certificate&nbsp;with English translation<\/li>\n<li>Photocopies of&nbsp;passport&nbsp;(pages with photograph of the holder and departure endorsement and visa covering the period of employment)<\/li>\n<li>Vehicle should be right hand driven<\/li>\n<li>Licensee should present his\/her self with his\/her passport&nbsp;at the time of clearance of the vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>Vehicle should be registered in the name of the licensee and cannot be transferred for three years<\/li>\n<li>Importation is permitted once in 05 years only.<\/li>\n<li>Importation of vehicles with CFC A\/C is not allowed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Importation of Used Motor Vehicles between 2 to 5 years old &#8211; Under Exchange Earned Abroad &#8211; Category I<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The motor vehicle should be registered under the name of the applicant and used by him for a period of more than one year<\/li>\n<li>Motor vehicle should not be older than 05 years from the date of first registration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Importation of Used Motor Cars Between 05 to 10 Years Old &#8211; Category II<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The motor vehicle should be registered in the name of the applicant and used by him continuously for a period of more than three years.<\/li>\n<li>Motor car should not be older than 10 years from the date of first registration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Support Documents Required<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Four copies of the receipt<\/li>\n<li>A Photostat copy of the Registration Certificate<\/li>\n<li>An affidavit giving reasons for being in Sri Lanka and particulars of the person<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the invoice of the Vehicle<\/li>\n<li>Receipts obtained from the cashier of the Dept. of Import\/Export Control<\/li>\n<li>Photograph of the Vehicle<\/li>\n<li>Photostat copies of the pages of the passport&nbsp;containing;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Name<\/li>\n<li>Date of expiry of passport<\/li>\n<li>Date of departure from Sri Lanka<\/li>\n<li>Date of arrival in Sri Lanka<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Bank statement in proof of foreign exchange savings from employment abroad<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Submission Procedure<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Obtain Application Forms<\/span><br \/>Counter \u2013 Unit 02<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Making Payments<\/span><br \/> Counter \u2013 Cashier<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Submission of Application Form and support Documents&nbsp;<\/span><br \/> Counter \u2013 Unit 02<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Application Forms<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Application for License to Import Vehicle under the Exchange Earned Abroad<\/li>\n<li>Specimen Indent Form<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong>&nbsp;Obtain the Application form from Unit 02<br \/> <strong>Step 2:<\/strong>&nbsp;Submission of filled application and the relevant Support documents to Unit 02<br \/> <strong>Step 3:&nbsp;<\/strong>If all the support documents are submitted and application is filled properly direct the applicant to assistant controller for his approval.<br \/> <strong>Step 4:<\/strong>&nbsp;The assistant controller approves issuance of a license. The Controller will decide whether to grant the request or not.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Costs Related to the Service<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Cost of Application Form<\/strong>: No cost of obtaining Application<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fee:<\/strong>&nbsp;Fee differs depending on the age of the Vehicle. The fee will be a percentage of the total value mentioned below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Penalties:<\/strong>&nbsp;If the Licensee fails to present him\/her self with his\/her&nbsp;<span title=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gic.gov.lk\/gic\/index.php?option=com_info&amp;id=399&amp;task=info&amp;back=0&amp;pid=415&amp;lang=en\">passport<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;at the time of clearance of the vehicle, his\/her license will be cancelled and the vehicle will be confiscated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Surcharge:<\/strong>&nbsp;No surcharge involved in this service.? If the vehicle is shipped before the license is obtained, an additional fee will have to be paid.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Importation of Used Motor Cars not Older than 05 Years<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Proof of Foreign employment for a period not less than 03 years and foreign earnings.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Importation of Used Motor Cars between 05 to 10 Years Old<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Proof of Foreign employment for a period not less than 05 years and foreign earnings.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Special Cases<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If in any case that the applicant wishes to extend the validity period a request should be forwarded to the Controller.
